Think Series Leaders' Sharing
|
Carina Au-Yeung, Ho Fung College
It's really a great opportunity for me to participate in this leadership program. Organized by professional organizations, National Geographic Channel and Wiseman Education, and trained by excellent trainers, I am so glad that I am part of this program. In the last month, I have met great friends from all
over Hong Kong. My teammates are from different schools and different districts.
|
However, we all have one common goal, which is to contribute to this program and to try our best. I can say this is nothing comparison to anything I have done before.
It's not merely doing, but achieving.
"Sometimes it takes a while to recognize that someone has a special ability to get us to believe in ourselves, and imagine that together we can do great things." ---Caroline Kennedy

The programme has brought immense excitement to my busy F.6 school life.
Although organizing an unfamiliar awards presentation ceremony with minimum guidelines and maximum deadlines to meet has not been an easy task, the programme has provided me with an invaluable opportunity to exercise my creativity, sensibility and the spirit of collaboration altogether to make the event as
complete and enjoyable as it can be.
|
|
I am grateful for the inspirations and advice from my trainers, who have been very approachable, helpful and understanding. I am also grateful for the opportunities of working with the 19 talented teammates, who have given me a lot of practical support, encouragement and
amusement in the complicated event organization process. The friendship and unity that we built together will last for a lifetime!

This programme is indeed a little bit short. But it inspires me in terms of leaders' attributes and some practical skills. What impresses me the most is the exposure to all other strong candidates all over Hong Kong and the invaluable friendship gained. We inarguably shine both on stage and "off stage".

With the same target, twenty of us worked the ceremony out.
What we have learnt are life-long, and valuable, but the friendship we gain are much more than that. I'm very glad that having you guys to be my friends, this has enriched my F.6 life a lot. All the effort we have paid on during these three months are worthy. Wish that the Think Again Spirit can be spread to
the world.

The Think Again Leadership Development Programme has offered me the opportunity to excel myself to be a better leader while working with other students around Hong Kong.
As the Head Prefect of my school, the programme has not only helped me to gain experience through the training sessions, where leaders train us to be leaders of the future, but most importantly working with my teammates and learning from them for the best possible outcome. It is how we communicate that
inspires me how I could be a better leader - something I didn't realize to be that important.
|
Besides working together, I'm delighted that my teammates are my friends at the same time, who we could relax with after training sessions. And we should not forget our trainers, their time and their patience. It is the sharing of their personal experience that truly motivated us to work for our future.
Although the Programme has to work its way through our busy schedules alongside with our public examinations, it is one that should not be missed for a lifetime experience!

I am glad that I have a chance to co-operate with the students from different schools and to organize an awards presentation ceremony. I enjoy the preparation process because everyone spares no pain to work it out. And soon, we will perform in the ceremony. I hope what we learnt from this program and the
friendship we gained can be lasted forever.
Being one of the 'Think Again' Leaders, I have gained many valuable experiences. Moreover, I have built up my confidence after participating in 'Think Again' leadership development programme. Working with 19 outstanding leaders from different schools of Hong Kong was a chance of a life time. Organising a big
event like 'Think Again Documentary Making Competition Ceremony' seemed impossible for our 20 young leaders at first. However, we finally made it with our efforts. I am really proud of every single 'Think Big' leader and our friendships are godsend presents to me.

Kathy Cheng, MFBM Chan Lui Chung Tak Memorial College
I am Kathy, a form 5 student. I am studying in MFBM Chan Lui Chung Tak Memorial College located in Tin Shui Wai. Although we have got some trouble in Tin Shui Wai, I still think that Tin Shui Wai is not all that bad as the news reporters say. At least, there is a wonderful place where my school is.
I am delighted to use this opportunity to thank my principal and my English teacher Ms. Li for supporting me to join the Think Again Awards Leadership Programme and the Think Again Awards Documentary Making Competition. I have really learned a lot. Not only can I improve my English during this rewarding
leadership programme, but I have also learnt to be independent and responsible. This is because we have to cope and solve problems ourselves unlike having a teacher to help us. I have to manage the difficulties myself. Another thing that makes me happy is I met a lot of new friends .They are all from good schools.
They are very kind and capable to be the leaders. I am pleased that I have been chosen for the programme after the interviews. I promise that I will contribute things that I have learnt to my schoolmates and even our society. Thank you very much!

Like. No .Other. Experience
How time flies! It seems like only yesterday that Think Again Leadership Program begun! In a blink of an eye, we have reached the end of the program. Time spent at training was ever so rewarding! Not only has it taught me useful leadership skills which I will cherish for life, it has also taught me the art
of co-operating and teamwork!
I will never forget the fantastic trainers and the supportive teammates I met here! Being the youngest of all can be challenging, however, I'm most grateful for the help from the other 19 lovely buddies, who walked through the journey with me!
|
|
I've had great satisfaction with what I have taken away with me through this program. As a result, it has set me with a strong foundation of leadership skills. This has also given Think Again Leadership Program the reputation it most deserves.
I hope in the near future, more programs alike would arise to nurture future young leaders!!

I am very thankful to be a part of the Think Again Leadership Development Programme. This programme certainly strengthens my ability to be a leader in every aspect.
Being president of the student council in my school, I have obtained immense amount of priceless experience and skills from this programme that I could apply now and for the rest of my life. I have learnt how to communicate with different types of people, even how to engage to a total stranger!
We appreciate all of our trainers who train us wholeheartedly with all their might. They have made us all better individuals and team players than we were before.
|
I wish to thank everyone who supports this programme to make this training programme possible. Also I would like to thank my teacher who nominated me, and of cause to all the leaders who we have leant together in the last two months.

Through this activity I can co-operate with students from all over Hong Kong. Working with different types of students offers me new insight and perspectives. The experience has helped me to reach new heights.
Especially as the leader of the Press team, we have to manage the challenge of how to communicate effectively with the press / media. Though I am the deputy editor of my school newspaper, but dealing with outside press is a completely new challenge to us. Nevertheless, we tried our best to get the job done.
|
|

It is such a great opportunity for me to be a part of this programme. An unforgettable experience to pursuit beyond one's limit, the Think Again Leadership programme truly allow me to enhance myself as a student leader, being able to express myself with full confidence. At the finale of the whole programme,
I have the chance to show how this programme changed me – I am now well-trained and with an enlightened spirit. The experience made me a more capable person ,confident to Shine on Stage.
I would like to express my gratitude for the marvellous trainers, and the Wiseman team. What I have learnt from all of you is invaluable. And of course, I must say that these two months I shared with the other 19 young leaders will become a life-long memory that I will always cherish in the years to come.

I am pleased and thankful that I can have an opportunity to participate in this Leadership Program.
To me, I have undoubtedly learnt a lot after completing this course and truly it is quite special. During the course, I have discovered new skills which I have not seen and even thought of before. I have leant to think more in detail and think deeper in organizing an activity. I will remember what I have
leant and I am going to use them in the future and contribute to the society.
Generally, I do think this program can increase the quota of participants so that more students can get benefits and learn from it.

As they say, 'Think Again' before you do everything.
I think nevertheless, we must NEVER think again to gain every opportunity to learn.

Thank you every trainers.
Thank you and congratulate every young leaders.

Jessie Leung, St. Mary's Canossian College
'The winner is ...' this is a line that can be heard in every prize presentation ceremony. To me, attending an awards presentation ceremony is another time to sit back, listen to long and occasionally tedious speeches and wait for the time to go on stage. That's all. As an audience, I have never paid
attention to details such as sign boards, reception, and decoration of venues...
But this time is different. I am playing a very active role in actually organizing the ceremony for over a hundred people. The logistics involved, the people that I have to deal with are of a totally different scale compared to the activities that I have organized before.
|
|
From making a checklist for every
single detail to writing invitation letters to distinguished people; from contacting contestants to site visit; from chairing meetings to allocating tasks to team mates of various strengths... all these are invaluable opportunities that have polished and shaped me into a priceless gem, who I have learnt to address
people's needs and to listen but not just hear.
Reminiscing, I have really enjoyed this leadership development programme - receiving training from prominent trainers and working with 19 other bright students coming from all over the territory. It often touches my heart when I receive heart warming messages from my team mates who ask me not to overload
myself and take good care. The smilies (sent via MSN), the few simple words may seem trivial but they are indeed the driving force that keeps me going. I am glad that my team mates are always there to offer help reminding me that this is not a one-man band but a team work.
Nevertheless, there were times when I mentally broke down, baffled by the tight schedule and the endless work both at school and in the programme. Yet, I have made it to this stage with the immense support from Clement and Winnie who have given me a lot of valuable advice, support and encouragement.
As our big day draws near, I sincerely hope that we can all have fun in the ceremony and let our hard work pay off.
The winner is everyone of us.

This is indeed an exciting, yet exhausting programme.
Every time when we step into a new training session, with a professional trainer standing in the middle of the room, it's a new journey of learning. Most of the training required us to be bold and step out of the environment that we're used to. We not only have to think out of the box, but also have to be
brave to take decisions out of something that we have been doing.
It's exhausting and I have sacrificed sleeping hours for the preparation work for the ceremony. On top of you studies and other activities we all have, we have to handle such a large project and ceremony without much guidelines telling us what to do.
|
The pressure that has made me afraid that we would screw
the ceremony up is sometimes unbearable, especially when you see there are a whole lot of things unfinished and the deadlines are drawing close. However, all these were compensated when you see all the supporting faces during meetings. The twenty of us, after working together for about two months, has not just been
good working partners, but also lifelong friends.
I am sure that the twenty of us will stand as one and really shine on stage on in the Finale. Let's stun the public with our excellence and professionalism!

The Think Again Leadership program is a very good chance for me to meet bright leaders from different schools. From the very beginning, we knew nothing about each other. Together we started exchanging ideas, going though training, taking care of logistics…Until now, we are a lot more familiar. It is surely a
nice experience for all of us and is worth devoting myself in. It would be regret if I have missed such a program.

The experience of being a Think Again Leaders was immensely empowering and inspiring. I got the valuable opportunity to polish my presentation skills with the help of highly-qualified, dedicated and encouraging trainers. I also realized the importance of leadership, confidence and team work. What's more, I
enjoy working with 19 talented young persons, and I am sure that the friendship and bonding among us would be last forever!
|

It has all been like a dream. In the past I was definitely a quiet person. I didn't like talking, nor did I get involved in groups. This was mainly because I'm really shy and I admit that. It was because of my shyness that I often cut off myself from people. Only a few close friends actually know what kind
of person I'm like. Other people get the impression that I'm just a serious and quiet guy, and that's about it.
|
When I had my first training session, I was really scared. All of the other 19 leaders spoke English and seemed to have better brains than me. Even though most of them were 2 years older than me I still wondered if I could ever be as smart as them when I was there age. It was a special feeling. They were
(and are) real talented students from schools all over Hong Kong…and they were sitting right beside me!! I wondered if I could do a good job when I would have to work with them later.
However, my attitude changed after my experiences during the training sessions for the rehearsals for the Think Again Awards Prize-giving ceremony. There was a time when I felt like everything around me would come to a halt. I saw all the others (all are my friends now), working really hard for the ceremony.
They had all come from different backgrounds, but yet, they were exerting their full power to make this ceremony a good one. At the same time, we were developing really close and sincere friendships with each other. They were confident and smart. They are truly the Think Again Leaders 2008. But for me there came
the questions; "Who am I? Why am I standing between them? Do I want to be part of them, have them as my life-long friends and be a leader like them?" Then an answer came up from deep in my heart - "Yes! Of course, I want to be their friend! I love them! I also want to be confident leader like them!" Coming with
these thoughts was a rush of energy. I felt that if I didn't try my best with them, I would disappoint everybody. Ever since this day, when I opened myself, the real me came out. I have arrived!
It has been really good experience. I've got very good buddies, and I've found myself. What I learnt is to be confident, and to be confident is to be yourself.

Remembering back to the whole interviewing process, I never thought I would learn this much from the whole 2-month long programme. What I thought I would learn were some basic communication and presentation skills. Yes, I learnt how to use these skills but I also learnt how to use them again in the future,
even if I am not being a master of ceremonies. Definitely Yes!!!!
We learnt a lot of theories but putting those theories into practice was another story. Sometimes we succeeded, sometimes we failed. But that's the way we learnt and developed. It was through having (endless) meetings, hectic rehearsals and other tasks that I realized how supportive every body was. No one
pretended they were smarter than anyone else (even if they were!).
|
|
What mattered most was being there and being a part of the team. The practical element of the programme is what made the training special; otherwise it would have all been just 'theories'.
In the past, the thought of working with 19 smarty-pants (fellow 'Leaders'), would have been a nightmare for me. But this programme proved me completely wrong. Each one of them was unique and our group was never complete if one of us was missing. I learnt a lot from the other leaders and very much enjoyed
being their entertainment co-coordinator. It was indeed my honor to be a part of the Think Again Leaders Development Programme, organizing the whole award presentation ceremony, and knowing everybody else who was involved.
